New Year's Goals

This song has always been one of my favorites and I now know why, it hit me yesterday. I specifically remember hearing this song on a chilly spring morning my freshman year of high school. I was riding with my hairdresser to school like every other morning, sitting directly behind the drivers seat and this song for some reason stuck with me, even until this day I have always sung this song and felt like it has meaning in/to my life. I have always loved it. You know, I think it was that morning that I truly realized what it was like to live the Christian life and know what it felt like. It was an amazing moment and I am forever grateful to Mrs. Jennifer for showing me what it is to live THAT life. She is an amazing woman of God.

I guess what I'm saying is this song so well describes my life, in my head at least. I was saved the summer of seventh grade at church camp in the mountains. I was on a high, the "new" hadn't worn off yet and it wasn't hard to live "the" life in front of others. I really hit a low in my Christian life my 11th and 12th grade years. There were so many unknowns and I thought I trusted my Lord. I truly didn't. It wasn't until this past year that I truly started trusting God, fully, completely, wholly, not worrying about burdens- just turning them over to Him. Now don't get me wrong I still have a lot of work to do, and I realize that, but at the same time I am soo proud of myself for making this progress that I have in my Christian walk. But let me tell you it is a good feeling knowing that your life and worries are in His hands.

I think there was a point my freshman year of college that this "trust issue" was resolved. It wasn't all at once, because I still feel like I'm continuing to "let go," but there was a major point when I took a leap in faith. I was sitting in Cotten lobby talking to Sarah as she was going through some hard times. Little did I know that I was changing before my eyes, sitting in that uncomfortable chair in front of those huge windows. I remember the night so well. And I knew something good happened when I laid down in bed that night.

All this to say that this song just really has impacted me and made me look back and realize just how far I have come since the day I was saved and that day sitting in Mrs. Jennifer's back seat. I am forever thankful to her for blasting some Jesus music on the way to and from school everyday.

Now onto the New Year's Eve part of this post. I'm not making any resolutions per se but I'm going to list a couple of goals and "commitments" to myself. ha!

- I want to continue my prayer life I have formed these past few months. I find myself in conversation during the day and just simply praying. I love this and want to continue it.

- I want to keep up my nightly routine of devotional reading and Bible reading and writing. Thanks to Sarah I have formed this lovely routine. See roomies are good for something, kidding!, I love my roomies all the time. :)

- I feel like my friends and I have gotten woven even tighter together this past year. I love this! Friends are such an important part of your life and a wonderful "support" system. I think I have done a decent job of making "deposits" into their lives, I know they have for me.

- I want to continue to be a key part of my Momma's life. I want so bad for her to get back into loving the Lord. Not that I think she doesn't just that she isn't actively pursuing Him, I feel she is putting other things first. This kills me on the inside because I know what she is missing but she doesn't.

- I want to be accepted into nursing school at ECU. This has been something I have had to turn over to God, I have stressed wayyyyyy too much over this, it is not in my hands anymore after Monday the 10th when I turn in my application. Not that it's in my hands now..

- I want to make sure my parent's know just how thankful I am for what they do for me. I don't think I have done the best job at this, this past year.

I hope 365 days from now I can look back at this and check everything off this list with a smile on my face. Happy New Year! I think 2011 is going to be a good year! At least I hope it is! :)

a post in which I have no title

Okay.. this may be a little long but I have to write this out. Just to get it off my chest and help me think it over.

It all "started" on Christmas Eve and the 11 pm service at church. I walk in sit down with Daddy on the 2nd row and Carrie, a long time friend but we aren't as close as we used to be friend, and her mom come up and sit with us. Carrie and I talk briefly before church starts and at the end she told me she wanted to catch up before we head back to school. I told her that, that sounded good, we always get together and catch up on life about 2 to 3 times per year. Well this time was different and I mean WAY different.

We decide we would go get lunch at Five Guys and then go shopping. We go to lunch and eat and just are talking, I'm telling her about my recent "boy life" and you know what girls typically talk about - everything. And she tells me about a guy she had dated back this summer and beginning of this school year and then she tells me they broke up and I asked "why?" Only I wasn't expecting the answer I got. She bluntly told me "I'm gay." Do what? Where did this come from? Should I get out of the car while sitting in I-440? Should I tell her this is wrong and goes against the Bible? What do I do? This is all going through my head and I don't have a clue what to say. So I say "oh..." and basically the conversation ended there while I pick my jaw up from the floor and shut my eyes at little bit because they were rather wide. Thank the Lord the conversation ended 'cause I needed time to think about what I just heard.

Anyway I don't know what to do. Like I don't have a clue. I want to just hop up on my soap box and preach but I don't think that would be quite appropriate but then again will any body else do it? I think she needs a reminder. Obviously.

There are so many places in the Bible that clearly state man and woman are made for each other and same sex marriage is not God honoring and sinful.

Let me just list out some verses...

- 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.
- Genesis 1:25 Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.
-Genesis 1:27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. He didn't create man and man or woman and woman.
-Mark 10:6 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet. He didn't want marriage to be something shared between 2 people of the same sex but between man and woman.

These are just a few passages but I think from this one could clearly see that same sex marriage/anything is wrong. God made us to love the opposite sex. Even if you looked at Noah's Ark didn't God command Noah to take 2 (male and female) of every living creature on the Earth with him on the ark. Do you think is was by accident that the animals were male and female? No.

Okay, I think I'm going to step down now. I just had to type this out, I don't know why though. I just ask that you pray for me while I am praying what to do in this situation. My humanly self wants to run far away, fast. I just gotta be honest, but I don't know if that is what I should do. I mean I was always raised to be God's "hands and feet" but I think there may be a time where you have to draw the line and leave it to someone else.

I'm confused about everything concerning this.

Don't think that I am judging anyone who is gay because I am not. I have many gay friends and I love them the same today that I did yesterday, it's just that I don't agree with it. But you know what I don't agree with a lot things people do so, oh well. And they may not agree with things I do and believe. This was not meant to offend, hurt anyones feelings, etc. And I'm sorry if I have but I'm leaving this post up because this is what I believe and this is my blog. My little corner of the world. Should I even have to defend myself anyway?

On a fun, lighter, brighter note... I will return soon with pictures from my break so far within the next few days. I have had a fun-filled, relaxing, much-needed break. And it's not quite over yet! :)

Trying To See The Good

I have been trying to see the good in the midst of this horrible cold. I finally went to the doctor yesterday and I have strep throat and a sinus infection. Yuck! But I am thankful for...

- antibotics
- a very knowledgeable NP who I saw yesterday
- Kleenex with lotion :)
- my brother who always ask me if I need anything, and if I say yes he gets it right then
- a fireplace that seems to be the only thing to keep me warm
- a comfy couch
- a Christmas tree that lights up the living room at night, so pretty!
- the fact that this to will pass, it could be lots worse, people are laying in a hospital bed this Christmas - I'm at home, some are fighting cancer while I'm fighting a cold - the 2 don't even begin to compare and yet, I'm the one complaining
- that my momma and daddy take care of me, thank the Lord for parents
- that I got this cold after exams, I can't imagine having this during exams!
- my tervis tumbler that keeps my water cold all night long. hah!

Anyway, I'm trying to see the good and not focus on the bad, because I realize just how many people have it so much worse than me. I just hope no one I have been around gets this stuff! Especially during Christmas.

Tons of Fun and Happiness

...all in one post!

To start with exams are over. Praise Jesus from above, literally. I don't know how I made it out alive and thank God for friends. Sarah and Lauren and Casey (the one day she was there) kept me sane and laughing. And thanks to Lauren for listening to me cry over a B and my momma's "kind" words of advice. :) Not really! But I will choose to forget that and move onto bigger and better things. I got 2 B's and 3 A's. woo hoo! I think Sarah's family thought I was crazy when I found out I got an A in Psychology. But it needed a little celebration. Lauren did too! Go us! I also beasted my statistics exam, I got a 93 on it and an A in the class.

All that to say, I get moved up to the next GPA bracket, when applying to nursing school. I did it, something I didn't think was possible. I guess that shows me I need to relax and know everything will work out, but that's kinda hard to do at times. I guess I really need to work on trusting the Lord with every little piece of my life, even grades. Such a simple verse but so so true, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understands, in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight." Proverbs 3:5-6 Such a simple, well-known, overlooked verse, but so meaningful and straight forward. A lot of times I think we as humans can know a verse word for word and say it over and over again but not truly believe it and live it out. I know I find myself doing this all the time. I can recite many, many verses and know what they mean but not use them to my good. This is a verse that I know and know and know but don't really believe it. I need to slow down a little and just be! In stressful, in the not-so-stressful times. I need to just sit down, breathe, think, read, and soak it up, and then the hardest part trust and believe.

I really don't know if this has made any type of sense at all, but it has to me. Ha! Any way I want to work on not just knowing but living. Sometimes we can learn from the simplest verses, the simplest people, and in the most stressful times.

Okay, next.... after exams, Lauren and I went to Charlotte/Monroe to stay with Sarah and her family for a few nights. It was a blast! We went shopping, eating, sight seeing, pretty-house looking. Oh, I love those two girls. I have so much fun with them whether we are laying around the house or out and about. We went to the fancy schmancy mall in Charlotte, Southpark, oh baby if only I had a little bit of money. I saw and wanted, thank the Lord I ended up leaving my debt card back home, at least I hope, I haven't looked for it yet, but it's not in my wallet. So I hope it's in my car. :) We also went to the Billy Graham Library and spent some time walking through the house he grew up in, it was so pretty inside. And homey! Then they had a live nativity scene, with a real camel and donkeys and sheep. It was beautiful! After that we finally went into the actual "library." We learned about his life, his crusades, his family, etc. I learned so much and I wish everyone could just get up and go. It was fun and free!

I had a blast hanging out with Sarah's family and getting to know Will and Mrs. Pam and Mr. Steve and little better and then meeting Memom and Kate. Kate is a hoot! Oh, let me tell you that child is a perform and kept me entertained the whole weekend. Love her! And the rest of them too of course! Will is a polite, sweet boy and you can really tell he has a heart for God! And I thank Sarah's parents for having me this weekend and letting me stay at there house. It was fun! Now a few pictures that I am definitely stealing off Sarah's facebook cause that's how I roll, considering my camera will not hold a charge for longer than 5 minutes. :)

Christmas Tree at Home

We decorated our tree at home 2 days after Thanksgiving. So it has been up for a while but I'm just not getting around to posting pictures. I got Momma to finally buy new "stuff" for the tree this year instead of have a mumble jumble, sentimental tree. PTL! I love me a "themed" tree. :) I guess maybe it's different when you have children and have collected random ornaments over the years?

Anyway pictures, the tree is red, gold, and crystal.
This is a close view of the top. It was only the 2nd bow I have ever tied. I'm proud of myself. Ha!
The entire tree. Taken with my point and shoot opposed to daddy's fancy camera. Blah!
My favorite ornament on the whole tree. The crystal ball. :) MaSue (Momma's momma) gave my mom and uncle each a Waterford crystal ornament every year up until she passed away and I love those ornament's they are so different and pretty. This was the ornament for 2000. They are very special ornaments and I hope to one day hang them on my tree. See I am a little, teeny tiny bit sentimental. :)

life is crazy at the moment

I have been crazyy busy since my last post. I had a great thanksgiving, and hope you did too. The one person who reads this. Hey Lauren! :) I ate way too much, shopped way too much, and slept not enough. Thanksgiving went by in the blink of an eye. But don't breaks always go by way too fast?

I did meet H and it went good. He was sweet and polite and all things good but we just didn't click. After Friday night things just kinda got "forced/weird?" I really don't know. haha. So yeah..

I got back to school only to be greeted by a lab practical on the nervous system. What fun. I definitely busted my tail for 2 straight days cramming for that thing and I'm proud to say that I got a 95 on the practical and a A in the class. Whoop Whoop! PS- so did Lauren. Go us! I'm proud!

So, yes, I'm back in school full swing. Exams and tests galore coming up! I can't wait until December 17th. That will be the best day of the semester, the last day of the semester! I only have 3 more school days and 5 exams standing in my way. I'm planning on blowing them out of the water and doing really really really good on them. But to do that I have to study study study and study some more. UGH!

All that to say I probably won't post until December 17th or after. :) School comes first. My momma taught me well I must say. But expect a post on the apartment Christmas tree (it's a little ghetto looking), my house Christmas decorations, Sarah's birthday adventures, and probably my grades if I did alright come the end.

meeting H

haha, don't you love my title. :) anyway, today i was supposed to meet H but ended up not. i'm not too upset though. he texted me this morning and said that he was on the way to the doctor's office. i asked why and he said that he was feeling worse than before (background- he hasn't felt good for about a month and started coughing and sneezing blood). i felt bad for him but didn't say anything about calling the "meeting" off. i then talked to lauren and she asked if he had said anything about today and i told her no and she said to mention something to him, therefore i did. when i asked him he said he really didn't feel good at all and would rather postpone it until a later time. that was totally fine with me because i want to meet the real H not the sick H. anyway, all that to say, we didn't meet today which was a bummer but he has been super sweet about it and said that we can do it on friday or saturday and that if lauren and kris can't come it can just be me and him. that makes me super duper nervous because i have never done this before and the thought terrifies me a little. but in a good way. :) anyway, i'll update when i know more. i can't wait to meet him. but honestly i'm not going into expecting anything because i don't want to be upset if we don't click and if we do click it will be that much more exciting. :) pray for me and my nervous self. pray that i don't sweat a flood. hah!

lots of happenings

Lots has been going on in my life this week since Wednesday night.

First school. Because it's what I try and focus on the most. I had an anatomy test today. The last one before the final. PRAISE JESUS! It was supposed to be the hardest one of the semesterand boy if it wasn't. It took me 45 out of the 50 minutes I had to take it, normally, I don't stay in classes taking the tests for that long. This scares me and the fact that I talked to Lauren afterwards and was still so unsure about how I did on some of the questions. I even studied my tail off for this, like a whole weeks worth of studing, even went to study groups and everything. I just pray I made a 72 or higher because I could get a B in the class with that. Anyway, I'm so burnt out on anatomy, it's not even interesting anymore. Well it is but not when I have to study it all the time. It is what it is.

Onto the more interesting stuff and what I will want to look back at and read when I am old and wrinkly. Kris (Laur's boyfriend) has this friend that he went to high school with and somehow in one of their conversations girlfriends came up. We will call him H, H asked Kris if he knew of anyone that was single because he was looking. And Kris told him about me, how special, bahaha! Wednesday night Lauren told me to check my facebook and see if I had a friend request and I looked at her like "what are you up to?" She said "Kris wants you to see and if so click accept!" I got on and H had added me and I clicked accept and almost immediately he messaged me. We talked for a whole hour, thats alot for not knowing someone and just randomly holding a conversation, for me. At the end we exchanged numbers and Thursday he texted me. I can't lie,i it made me smile. :) But we texted all day yesterday and have been texting a lot today. I'm ready to meet him, but I want to meet him on like a double date with Lauren and Kris. To hopefully help out in the akward times. I'll keep this posted on what happens.

Just thought I should add, I would have never thought this would have happened now.

...And I'm not proofing this, maybe I will later. :)

Updated Playlist

I put up some new songs on the blog playlist. Yay! I love music, especially music that makes me think of certain things/memories and/or inspires me. Taylor Swift, I am in love with her new CD, who could not love her songs! Music is always playing or I am always signing, just ask my roommates. But they love it, I know they do! Lauren kinda the same way, but there is one difference - she can refrain from signing and I can't. It's just not in me.

Anyway, enough rambling. Soon I am going to put some Christmas music up. It's such a happy time of the year and my favorite time of the year. And don't tell me nothing like it's not even Thanksgiving yet. Don't fret, we haven't decorated the apartment or my house yet. But soon! Hopefully!

In A Funk

I'm not what I would consider a Type A person, I mean I don't mind just going with the flow, but it can get kinda frustrating at times, and in those times I want all the control. ALL OF IT! I also am one with little patience recently, normally I am pretty understanding, don't have a short-temper, and a pushover, but not recently. I am currently in a stage where I want all the control and I have absolutely none it seems, maybe this plays into my patience, or lack there of. Let me list out what I don't know about my life real quick:

- I don't know where I am going to live next year yet. I mean I know where I want to live and I have some time to decide but it's just the fact that I haven't signed a lease anywhere so I don't have concrete plans.

- I don't know if I will get into nursing school. I hope I do, but what if I don't. What am I supposed to do with my life. Nursing is the only career I see my self doing. Do I just wait and apply again in the Spring? If so, what am I supposed to do for a whole semester?

- I don't know where I want to live after I graduate like not a clue. I know I want to stay in NC but where? It's a big state? Hopefully I will be applying to different hospitals and that will lead me in the direction I should go.

- Who am I going to marry? Simply put!

- What church am I supposed to go to in Greenville?

- What campus ministry? VCM and Collide? Just VCM? Just Collide? A different one all together?

As you can see I don't know a lot about what is going to happen in my near future. It is frustrating. And confusing. And annoying. And bothersome. And trying. And tiring. But you know what, that's okay! That's life!

I truly believe everything will work out how it is supposed to be, I just have to wait and watch it unfold before me! This has been kinda hard.

Wait and watch. Wait and watch. Wait and watch. I have to repeat this over and over to myself throughout the day.

Catching Up

I think I am just going to be able to update this once a week at the most. Which is going to have to be okay!

- I am officially drowned in school work. It's ridiculous! I have exams every week until Christmas. Minus 2 weeks. Oh my gracious - talk about some stress. I also haven't been doing very well in school. As and Bs don't cut it for intended nursing majors.

- I apply to nursing school starting now! I need to fill out my application but I'm honestly scared to death! For real, no joke! My worst nightmare would be that Lauren got in and I didn't.

- Mrs. Dana has been diagnosed with cancer again! This hurts me and I worry about her and the boys constantly. I can't imagine what they are going through. I ask that whoever reads this to pray for her and the boys. For strength, perseverance, protection, guidance, peace, trust, and most of all comfort that they will rest knowing that God has every piece of her story stitched out just so!

- I need to start exercising again, P90X was a fail! Oh well, I'll just stick to running all the time. I like it better anyway.

- I also need to start eating better, I don't ever cook anymore because I'm always studying it seems. This shall be fixed really soon.

- I am going to go study now... so much fun. One day I will be thankful that I studied as much as I have. At least I hope I will. hah!

Lets Throw A Pity Party

FYI: this is a warning before you go any further. i'm throwing a pity party for myself tonight. :)

okay- ready- lets go!

this past weekend and week i found out that my childhood best friend is going to be getting engaged in the near future. she is graduating college this year and will be getting engaged around the same time. i also found out today that my roommate's long time "boyfriend" (something like that, they haven't ever been in a long term relationship but she has always liked him) confessed his love for her. he told her that "he would be marrying her, if she will wait for him, he will wait for her" (sidenote- aww! how sweet! everyone knew it was coming) and then yeah, we all know my other roommate/best friend will be marrying the guy she has been dating for 3 years.

its just not fair. how can i be sitting here single, all alone, never dated, probably never will date or get married for that matter and they all be scoring awesome boyfriends. i dont understand. what have i done wrong.

now i know everyone says "God has your's picked out, he's coming" "your time will come" "who knows you may get married before us" blah blah blah blah blah. i cant fully understand this. like its easy to say this when you know what your plans are in the future, when you have a serious boyfriend, when your world is complete because you have "the one" sitting in front of you. its not so easy watching all these people fall more in love and i'm sitting here all alone. why? why do i have to feel this way? what did i do to deserve this? i long to have a boyfriend, like i want nothing more. is that what i'm doing wrong?

the only rest i get is knowing that my Jesus is there whether i have a boyfriend or not. my Jesus is the one who has decided whether i will get married. no one else has or can tell me whether i will get married or not. i can't even do that. the one thing i can tell you is that my Jesus will be the same after i get married or if i never get married, the He is now. and i can rest in that. i just wish i knew His plans for me. but that is out of my control.

ps- my Jesus is your Jesus, too. and He is always working in our best interest! :)

(i know i have rambled and probably made no sense at all in this post. sorry about that. i'm not proof reading this either. ha!)

Paint It Purple

This weekend ECU played NC State. This is a BIG game for both teams. State is one of our rivals and a rival they are. The rivalry goes way back and this is normally an annual game although we aren't in the same conference.

On Friday, the State players came to Greenville, with a police escort mind you - I think they were scared- justkiddingbutkindanot!, to spend the night and get well rested while our boys were getting well rested as well. You know that sleep helps a lot. The next morning was the big day. The showdown! Who was going to be on top at the end?

I went to a wing place to watch the game with Lauren, Kris, and Coty. It was fun, but nothing like being in the stands. If you remember I didn't get in the Student Pirate Club this year, and yes I'm still upset about that. Anyway, the game was back and forth after the first quarter. At half time the game was tied. It went in to OT and ECU came out on top. ARGGGHH! :) I'm so very proud of the pirates. We whooped some Wolfpack booty! :)

Okay, anyway, I do have to say though that it was close and I'm feel bad for my Daddy because his team got beat by my school. But I'm not too sorry! :) I bet NC State didn't need an escort back home.

Enough junk talk, I'm just really really proud of the pirates!

PAINT IT PURPLE BABY!

You're Beautiful!

I'm posting a blog that Ashley over at The Happily Ever Afters of The Lancasters wrote. Because it is that good! Everyone needs to read this and soak it up! You are beautiful.. I'll let her finish. :)

"The Secret of Self Worth

I have been surrounded by the issue of women and self-worth lately. It's everywhere.

I was sitting in the nail salon, when a complete stranger and I struck up conversation. In the course of that conversation, she poured out her heart that she was divorced and had just gotten out of her first relationship since her divorce. The reason? The man cheated on her. She confided that as a woman in her late 40's, she felt completely horrible about her weight, her worth, and herself. We ended up exchanging information and I have invited her to church with me.

I help teach a girl's Bible study for our student ministry. The other night, our main teacher couldn't be there, so a friend of mine and I taught the lesson. It was called "The Secret to Self Worth." Within 10 minutes of beginning the lesson, three girls had already started crying because of the way they feel about themselves. Weight, parental relationships as well as relationships with the opposite sex, and feeling media pressure were all things that struck a chord with these young girls, and they couldn't hold back the tears.

I was watching Oprah the other day, and the topic was about two 30-year-old women who hadn't been in an intimate physical relationship with a man. (Of course as a Christian, I think it's God's best for women to wait until marriage for that relationship. But that's beside the point right now.) Both of these women admitted that they felt horribly insecure about themselves. They feel unworthy of having happy relationships.

There's a girl I see at church almost every week. She's in late high school. Her insecurity is so obvious, it's almost painful to watch. And the clincher? She's what the world would consider a really attractive girl. She even has the physical looks to feel confident. But it's blaringly obvious that she is desperate to hide in a cave of insecurity.

And the list goes on and on. Women are crying out to feel worthy, beautiful, and secure. We live in a culture that is obsessed with image and self-glorification. It's disgusting.

At the girls' Bible study, I showed them the Dove video that gives the real scenario behind ad campaigns and models. Even women who are (by worldly standards) beautiful are asked to lose 15 more pounds, are loaded with makeup and styling, and are airbrushed into porcelain, perfect figures. I reminded the girls that there are people sitting around a conference table, deciding how to market a product to young girls. They discuss how to prey on the insecurities of these girls, just to make a buck. They spend millions of dollars to make girls feel 1 inch tall and a dollar short.

The biggest thing we discussed was how the Lord makes a difference in our attitudes and minds if we let Him. He created us perfectly, in His own image, and if we know Him as Lord and Savior, His Holy Spirit dwells inside of us. We have that supernatural power to transform our thinking!

The Bible study told three formulas that girls/women believe:

1. Worth = What I Look Like
2. Worth = What I Do
3. Worth = What Others Think of Me

Aren't these true? We ALL fall into these categories of thinking sometimes. We discussed how to change these formulas:

1. Worth = How I am created in the image of God
2. Worth = What Jesus Christ has done for me
3. Worth = What the Lord thinks of me

Isn't that a wonderful way to change your thinking? Women of ALL AGES need to remember that we are precious, loved children of God. He desires for us to claim the power of Christ over these lies! It breaks my heart that we as women cheat ourselves out of so much happiness, because just can't get over those 20 pounds. Now don't get me wrong--it's important to take care of ourselves and be our best. But the Lord loves us at WHATEVER WEIGHT WE ARE, what we look like, what we have or haven't done, and regardless of what the world thinks. Thank you, God!

I've said this before, but I want to encourage you to read this book:

It was life-changing for me!

Do not let the Enemy steal your joy, keep you from enjoying the rich life God has for you, or deceive you into thinking that you're not worthy of love. (I'm telling this to myself most of all!) We are living in a world where women (men too, but especially women) are desperate for acceptance--most of all from themselves. Claim His promises and know that you are fearfully and wonderfully made.

You're beautiful!"

God's Gentle Reminders

A little background "story" first-For my birthday, my roommate, Sarah, blessed me with a wonderful gift. She gave me a daily devotional book and a journal to write my thoughts, worries, praises, etc. in every night! Very thoughtful and useful and needed. She knows just what I need to do to continue stepping out in my faith and is always encouraging me to do so.

Today I was going to post about my dating history - which is nonexistent, literally - but instead I'm going to post my thoughts on my devotional for today. I believe this may be a turning point in my faith and trust in God and him bringing me my boyfriend that I soo badly long for!

"You have been on a long, uphill journey, and your energy is almost spent. Though you have faltered at times, you have not let go of My hand. I am pleased with your desire to stay close to Me. There is one thing, however, that displeases Me: your tendency to complain. You may talk to Me as much as you like about the difficulty of the path we are following. I understand better than anyone else the stresses and strains that have afflicted you. You can ventilate safely to Me, because talking with Me tempers your thoughts and helps you see things from My perspective.
Complaining to others is another matter altogether. It opens the door to deadly sins such as self pity and rage. Whenever you are tempted to grumble, come to Me and talk it out. As you open up to Me, I will put My thoughts in your mind and My song in your heart."

Related bible verses- Jeremiah 31:25 and Philippians 2:14-15

(Oct. 9th devotion from Jesus Calling by Sarah Young)

All I can say is WOW! if that isn't a 'gentle' reminder that we have it better than we think and God is always always always with us on the path we are traveling, what is. What do we have to complain about when God gave HIS SON for us and watched HIS SON die on the cross for everyone of us who do not deserve it? I mean why should I worry about being single at the ripe old age of 19 when I have a whole life ahead of me with Jesus. I don't have any reason at all, I truly have all I'll ever need. I know that deep down in my heart, now I just need to do better at believing and trusting in that. If I am meant to be married and have a lovely husband I will, God will not leave me hanging. :) I need to rest in that.

This is not to say that I don't desperately long for a boyfriend/husband, because I certainly do, but I need to hold God's hand on my journey to him. I need be better about complaining "I wish I had a boyfriend" "Life must be so much better when you have a boyfriend to hang out with" blah blah but instead need to start praying and thanking God for the wife He is preparing me to be in the process. Please pray for me on the walk! Thanks!

Working Out

Today my roomies and I started P90X. Oh my word!! Seriously, if this doesn't kick my booty into shape I don't know what will. Like P90X is no joke! I'm laying in bed eating some carrots with lite ranch and feeling the burn. But I must say I do feel good. It's the good type-a hurt. Haha. Anyways, I hope by Christmas we will be in tip top condition. Actually, I KNOW we will be! I have no doubt. I am going to stick to this workout and not quit, for the first time in my life.

We took before pictures and we will take afters when we complete the program in 90 days. I hope to see a lot of change. I'm looking to at least lose 20 pounds, I could use it!

I still need to pick up a yoga mat, a heavier set of weights (all I have are 3 and 5 pounds and thats not enough) and a enthusiastic attitude and it will make P90Xing it a lot more comfy. :)

I will hopefully report back with good news in a couple of months or weeks. :)

Post Full of Random Thoughts

-I've never been more stressed because of school. I have 4 tests next week. 1 on Monday, 2 on Tuesday, and 1 on Wednesday. I'm ready for Thursday!! :)

-Thursday is my birthday. I'm glad that I will be done with tests. I will be able to relax and breath, for that I am thankful!

-I have a really great best friend, Lauren, like for real. We have been friends for 12 years! And we have never gotten into a fight. I know, I'm impressed. Anyway, I wouldn't trade her for anyone else.

-I love her boyfriend, he treats her like a princess and one day I want to marry someone like him. He is going to cook me dinner on my birthday. Told you he was a sweetheart, she got lucky!

-He has a friend that is pretty cool too, maybe I'll do a post about that later. hah!

-I'm all alone this weekend at the apartment. I'm so glad because I will be able to study like no one's business without any distractions.

-I just got back from the gym and I ran close to a whole mile without stopping. Actually, I jogged, but who cares. That's huge for me. Then I walked another mile.

-Stella, the cat, is sleeping beside me on the couch, it makes me feel right at home.

-We have been having roaches crawl around here lately. It's disgusting and we need to put in a work order for them to come and spray. Soon.

-I'm feeling a little less stressed now that I wrote all of this stuff out.

-I'm ready for life to slow down a little but I don't think that will happen until a couple of weeks from now.

-I'm going to set a goal for my self to write on here twice a week I'll see if I can do it. :)

Recap of the Past Week

This is mostly just for my record.

It has been crazy busy. I feel like I haven't had time to breath let alone sit down. School has officially taken over my life, the only thing I can think about is "when is fall break?" I need it some type of bad and it is only the 3rd week of class. And I haven't had an exam yet. But tomorrow morning I will be able to say I have. UGH!! I have been studying anatomy like a mad woman and fitting in math and psych when I can. It's not pleasant but has to be done. So I will keep plugin' along and keep a good attitude about it along the way. :)

This weekend Sarah, my roomie, and I had a 2 freshman girls over for the night. I cooked french toast for breakfast (with some help from Sarah) and then we all went to the football game together on Saturday and then went out to eat afterwards. College football consumed my day on Saturday and what do you know, I studied at night.

Sunday I went to church and then went and ate Mexican with Sarah. It was YUM! I have been on a Mexican food kick lately. It's weird because normally it hurts my belly really bad and I'm miserable after but not recently, I'm happy. After lunch, I again studied, then it was time for me to head to my brother's baseball tournament, it was his birthday, so, of course I had to go, I couldn't not see him on his birthday. I made cupcakes for him and his team on Saturday night, 'cause I'm nice like that. :) After the ball tournament I came home and crashed! I was exhausted from my busy weekend!

I'm going to steal a couple of pictures from Sarah. I need to start whipping out my camera and taking pictures instead of stealing others. haha!

Busy Busy Busy

I have been crazy busy this past week. I promise I will update the blog tomorrow or Thursday. Wednesdays are crazy for me, I'm in class basically all day. Not fun! Anyway, I will update soon, promise! :)

Football Season

Football season has begun. We had our first game today. Very different from last season, we have had many changes. The student section was moved from the 50 yard line to the end zone, which was just completed less than a month ago, a brand new head coach, Ruffin McNeil, something crazy like 29 seniors graduated last year so our team is basically brand new, and it's a brand new season. I think we were ready for the Hurricanes, or at least we thought we were. ECU won the game by the SKIN OF OUR TEETH, for real. We were down by 4 points and there was 5 seconds left in the game. Davis, our QB, threw a hail mary and Johnson, I think he is a wide reciever, caught the ball in the end zone. What?!? Yeah, thats the ECU Football Team I knew! And we won. :)

This was the winning catch! Praise the lord we won, it was a crazy game!

I was actually at home instead of there, I know, I know. I'm kinda glad though, I heard the bleachers were breaking and tipping people off of them and that game was terrible for my cardiac health at home, I can't imagine what it would have been if I would have been there. Anyway, we are ready for Memphis next week!!

EDIT: found this video of the last play.. just thought it needed to be posted. Shows how laud everyone was too! :)

Favorite Music Lately

Lately I have been on a music listening kick. Like I'm talking I listen to music ALL the time, I go to bed listening to music and wake up listening to music. Literally! Ask my roommates, they are probably tired of hearing me sing. Cause I sing when I listen to music. Without fail!

I've been listening to mostly country and contemporary christian with a little hip-hop/r&b/whatever you call it thrown into the mix.

Here are some of my favorites and a little blurb as to why..

This is song is one of my favorites because I never knew either of my grandfathers. They both passed away before I was born but I imagine them both to be like the grandpa in this song and love me and "get on me" like Justin Moore's grandfather loved him (FYI- JM said this song is completely true when I heard him in concert). I believe and have been told that they would have had an unconditional love for me.

I LOVE this song because I know one day a man will look at me this way and I can't wait! Although, I know it will be worth the wait! I look forward to being someone's wife that they adore.

(I just spilled a cup of water down the air vent. Whoops!)

We pour out our miseries
God just hears a melody
Beautiful the mess we are
The honest cries of breaking hearts
Are better than a Hallelujah

What is better than this chorus? I have really been learning to be real with God, he knows everything so why am I trying to hide from him. I needed to learn that no matter what God loves me! I always knew this but I have really started believing and living this. It is hard to fathom that he loves me even more than my daddy! Whoa!! Because of his love for me he doesn't care if I shout and cry or be quiet because HE KNOWS! He knows my heart and what is in it. This song has made a huge impact on me this summer.

I think the lyrics of this song speak for themselves. If you don't listen to a single song, listen to this one.

I'm not really sure why I like this song. But my favorite line is "If I could I write you a song to make you fall in love I would already have up under my arm." It's pretty thought provoking. Wouldn't it be so easy to just pick your boyfriend/girlfriend if all you had to do was write a song to fall in love? I wonder how many people try that? Haha!

That's a few of the songs I love right now, definitely not all of my favorites. Maybe I'll do another post with some more soon. Who knows? I've been a bad blogger lately and I just started blogging, I know, shame on me. :)

Weekend

I had a pretty busy weekend. Lets start with Friday, I went to class at 9, like a good girl. ha! Then I went to pick up my card for the student pirate club, waited in line for a good 45 minutes, finally got up to the window, handed over my student ID and license. They took them and went to get my SPC card. It took and little while the man came back and said that there wasn't a card printed for me. Wonderful, I had to go in the athletic building and check it out to see if my payment went through. So I willingly went and followed the very kind man instructions, got up to the SPC office and was "greeted" by a very unpleasant lady. She simply told me they had no record of my payment and that I wouldn't be in the SPC this year. Sweet! NOT! There began my bad day until my best friend, Lauren, texted me and said that she had 2 Brad Paisley tickets for Saturday and wanted to know if I would like to go. She didn't have to ask, yes! We were trying to win them the day before. My bad day turned around real quick. I was stoked!

Saturday- I woke up, packed my bag and was on my way back home. I saw my family for a couple of hours and hung out with them. Then was on my way to the concert with Lauren and Kris, her bf. We ended up sitting on the 3rd row from the stage and were able to go up to the front of the stage during the concert. Yall I touched Justin Moore, Darius Rucker and Kellie Pickler's hands and was, literally, TWO inches from touching Brad Paisley, needless I had a blast. I also got to witness and veeery drunk woman and her husband ended leaving her at the concert. Like you know separated after the concert leaving. Sad! Thats what alcohol will do to you I guess.

Anyway, This man made my night!

And this man (Justin Moore) may be my new favorite country artist. And not to mention his pretty baby blues! Oh my!

Sunday I went to church, Lauren and I have been going to a different church here at school and this was our second time at this church and I think we may call it home. So far I love it, but I need to go a little more to know for sure. The rest of the day I have studied and we cooked chicken casserole for dinner. Yum!

Hope everyone else has had a wonderful weekend as well!

Sophomore Year

I'm working on my second day of classes and so far they haven't been too bad. I've had Elementary Statistics and Anatomy and Physiology. A & P was a little on the boring side, thank the lord it's only a 50 minute class. Hopefully, it will get better once we get into the course. Stats was okay, I'm not much of a statistics math person, I love algebra and trigonometry, etc. but statistics is a different story! I took stats in high school and didn't pass the college exam so hopefully round two will turn out better. I REALLY like my teacher. I think she will be really good for me because she has been teaching stats for 21 years! She is also a "mommy-like" teacher, so that's good! I'm excited to go to the rest of my classes, music lecture, psych, and A & P lab. Lab will be fun! Over all, so far so good!

Missing My Family

Today i drove an hour to watch my brother and his team play in a baseball tournament. They played fairly good, won one, lost one, but then it was time for me to come back to my "home." I don't consider this home yet because my heart is still back in my home town, it was so hard to drive back to school when my house was only 30 minutes away. Ofcourse, I could have gone back but I needed to come back to my apartment for myself, to spread my wings, per say. I almost broke down crying at first but then I got a grip of myself because my parents are paying good money for me to be here and make this apartment my home while I make something of myself at college. Why should I be sad? I enjoy being at school and living on my own but my family isn't here and that sucks! I miss them like crazy!

I was thinking while driving, the best time to think because it's quiet and peaceful and at times the only time I allow my mind to slow down, why didn't I get this emotions I'm feeling right now last year? I was a little ole freshman living in the dorm with my car miles down the road from me, all I had was my best friend/roommate (and she lives with me now). I think it was because I was plunged into college life and ready to dive in head first. I also thought that I shouldn't cry because I was a "big girl now" so I held all those emotions in and brushed them off. Now, they are resurfacing stronger than ever and I'm not scared to feel them, they are normal, and everyone feels them just at different times. I'm okay with that this year!

So, tonight I have been a little sad and sentimental because I MISS MY FAMILY, but that's alright!

PS- I also have a horrible head cold including a fever which makes me want my mommy even more.

Coming Home

I ADORE this place!!!

And I realized when I haven't been going like I should. Lately I haven't been going very much. Why, I don't know? But that is changing from here forward. Why, because I enjoy it and it gives me the burst of energy I need, every Sunday, to go and be the Christian I have been taught to be!

Today I went and sat down in the sanctuary on my normal pew and scanned over the bulletin. Just like I have since I started going to "big church." You will never guess the title of the sermon... Forgetters become Rememberers! What!!! Yeah, basically the sermon was about us, Christians, forgeting what church and the Lord does for you and then you come back and become a "rememberer." The passage was Deut 8. It is saying do not forget to honor and praise your Lord when you have good things come your way and instead always remember the Lord in everything you do and receive for it is Him who gives it to us.

The hymn of commitment was "Lord, I'm Coming Home" this hymn is one that I don't know well at all. I was singing and it hit me, I came back home today, to my hometown church and to Jesus (not that I was ever gone, I just wasn't living like I should and walking the straight and narrow behind him). It was good! I'm going to put the words below.

I appreciate my pastor and all that he does for our church and the congregating along with the minister of music. They meant the world to me today, it was perfect.

I’ve wandered far away from God,
Now I’m coming home;
The paths of sin too long I’ve trod,
Lord, I’m coming home.

Coming home, coming home,
Nevermore to roam;
Open wide Thine arms of love,
Lord, I’m coming home.

I’ve wasted many precious years,
Now I’m coming home;
I now repent with bitter tears,
Lord, I’m coming home.

I’m tired of sin and straying, Lord,
Now I’m coming home;
I’ll trust Thy love, believe Thy word,
Lord, I’m coming home.

My soul is sick, my heart is sore,
Now I’m coming home;
My strength renew, my home restore,
Lord, I’m coming home.

My only hope, my only plea,
Now I’m coming home;
That Jesus died, and died for me,
Lord, I’m coming home.

I need His cleansing blood I know,
Now I’m coming home;
Oh, wash me whiter than the snow,
Lord, I’m coming home.

Random Thoughts Tonight

I have a couple of things on my mind, tonight, some very random. ha! which you will come to find is not rare.

- Tonight my mom and I had a pretty intense talk about being a mom, and the chores that come along with it, more specifically how she is fulfilling (or lack there of, IMHO)her role as a wife and mother. I think we are both on the same page now, and that is a WONDERFUL feeling! Communication is so so important between a mother and daughter and now that I'm not living at home all the time, we haven't been talking like we used to.

- I love laying in bed at night and hearing my parents talking, it's sweet!

- Thunder storms are not my friend, I'm truly scared of them. Like a fear of them, I feel sick to my stomach when they come. My dog doesn't like them either.

- There isn't anything like spending time with my dad, especially fishing on a boat just me, him, and my brother. Good quality time! I enjoy and learn so much from my dad, he is the most Godly man I know, and he is always willing to help someone, whoever it is! Love him!

- It has been extremely hot (in the 100s) the past couple of weeks, like "you start sweating when you walk out of the door" hot! Have I mentioned I HATE sweating! Yeah, I'm ready for winter. North Carolina summers aren't for me!

- I have realized over the summer how much I grew in my relationship with God the past school year, but I also realized how much I can still grow and things I need to do to continue my growth, i.e. - really dig into the word!

- I'm contemplating leading a bible study for college girls this year with a couple of girl friends in my campus ministry?!?!

That's about it... I'll write more later, tomorrow is going to be extremely busy, so most likely it will be Friday..

My Second Family

Little background first- I mentioned that I used to ride horses. Well I started riding at a small barn about 10 minutes from my house and fell in love with the horse and the lady who taught me, although at the time I didn't realize how much she meant to me. As I continued riding, I began leasing the lesson horse so I could ride anytime I wanted to. Eventually, I started taking lessons with a trainer, Grady, because Kim couldn't help me out as much any more. Soon after that Kim had a cerebral aneurysm (bleed in the brain). This was tragic to me, my momma told me sitting at Wednesday Night dinner in the fellowship hall at church and I LOST it. My preacher ended up coming over to the table and everything, of course he already knew what had happened because Kim goes to the same church as us. My world stopped where it was. I went to the hospital to see her, after she recovered a little bit, on Mother's Day. I took a video of the horses so she could see them. I remember watching Kim walk down the hall, assisted, and listening to her say she didn't know if she would be able to ride again because she lost feeling on one side of her body, mainly in her leg. This was gut wrenching to me, she seemed to take it in stride because of her faith in the Lord. She put all her worries in the Lord's hands and let him carry her. (Today is she riding like she never skipped a beat!!)

During this time she showed me what is was like to love, trust and put faith in the Lord! She overcame her troubles because God was by her side, I now can see that plain as day. (PS- at this time I was not saved)

Kim was also there before her bleed when my grandmother passed away. She came and picked me up from my grandmother's house when my family was meeting with our preacher and took me to the barn to ride and clear my mind. She was at the funeral and at the visitation afterwards, she came through the line to get me and take me away from the crowd to the fellowship hall, I was very upset and dry heaving. She sat me down and explained to me where my grandma was and that God was going to comfort me in that time of grief and got me some Coke. ha! She knew just what I needed!

These are just two examples of her love for me and how she has encouraged me in my walk with the Lord. Kim is my hero, my role model, and my momma! I love her so very much.

I also love Chuck and Scott. Chuck is like my second daddy, he is always telling me to buckle up before leaving their drive way, watch out for deer, picking on me about boys, and riding me around the farm in the truck with him. I kept Scotty in the afternoons for two years and during the summers. These were some of my best memories with them and I will always cherish them.

I am writing this because today I realized for the millionth time just how important they are to me and how accepting they are. I can go back to the farm/their house for the first time in months and they still love me like they see me every day. I can hug their necks and catch up on life for hours on end, take Scott to a church pool party and call them up like its my job. I am soo very thankful for this family and what they have instilled in me!

Changes

This past week has been full of changes for me. I moved into my apartment with my 3 other roommates on Sunday which is why there have been no posts the last couple of days. My family has lived in one house since I have been born, so I have never experienced moving before this and boy, it is a job! Bless the people who have to move every couple of months or years. It takes days to get everything in order and just how you like it. And money, I won't even go there.

Back to changes, it is weird having my own apartment, of course with 3 other girls but still, having to grocery shop, cooking lunch and dinner, clean up, etc. How do moms do it? Even if you are a stay at home mom/wife, your day is filled up! My oh my.

I have gotten everything in order but not quite how I like it, I'm very picky. Something still need to be moved around, we need some more stuff for the walls, my bathroom isn't quite right, the wreath needs to be hung, my curtain rod won't stay up on the wall. You know the stuff that will finally get done and then it will be time to move out. haha!

Overall, I LOVE being here and I LOVE my roommates! The apartment complex is really nice, they will wash your car for you for free, they have a zero entry salt water pool, a gym, tanning beds (which I have done good and not been in-an accomplishment in and of itself), and it's gated.

I will get pictures to put up as soon as I get some more batteries for my camera.

PS- only nasty thing about the apartment- when we got here we had to inspect the place and our back patio has vomit EVERYWHERE. Apparently, the cool thing to do in college is throw up in a bag and throw it one someones porch and let it splatter everywhere. Whoever did that was either raised in a barn or was drunk.. Blah!

Blaze

Blaze was such a good horse. He may have been wild and crazy, but he had life! He was 28 and lived a good life for the past 10 years as a "pasture ornament."

I'm going to miss this horse. He has always been my favorite at the barn, other than my horse, Buddy. After Buddy was sold, Blaze kept me going to the barn, he reminded me so much of Buddy. He will be missed!

You Never Know What Is Coming

Last night my Daddy and I had picked up my brother from a friends house and we headed home. We were sitting at a intersection and were making our turn onto another road. As we turned I looked ahead and saw what looked like a motorcycle followed by a pick up truck IN OUR LANE! They were flying, I would say 55-60 in a 45. My brother was saying "get over Daddy, get over" (mind you there was a ditch to the right) I was saying "Oh my gosh!" and Daddy was just as silent as could be. I didn't know what to do, I knew we were about to crash. At the last second my dad pulled over into the ditch and the truck passed by us. Whew! That was a close call! I started praying thanking the Lord. As the truck passed us though, we noticed the truck had a mo-ped in front of it, not a motorcycle, and we smelt burning rubber. The truck continued on the road we just came off of. Less than 30 seconds after this we saw a police car. Daddy turned around thinking the police car had no clue where the truck went and he was going to make sure he knew. The guy driving the run away truck almost hit us and put Daddy's children in danger. After we turned around we then found out the guy had hit the mo-ped and the driver was lying on the side of the road! No helmet! The mo-ped driver was up and walking around, no broken bones anything! (side note- an ambulance 'just happened' to be driving by right after the accident happened)

All this to say, how can you think there is no God? The driver had nothing but a few cuts on his leg and back, after being hit by a truck moving 45 mph. We somehow missed the truck and didn't get hit. There was an ambulance there to help in under 2 minutes. Wow! That makes you think and pray and love your Lord more than you already did! I'm so very thankful for His undieing love for us even when we don't deserve it! Nothing can match it!

Braces

I had my routine orthodontist appointment today, I went in proud of myself for wearing my retainer like I was told to. I knew that my upper right canine tooth had once again rotated to the inside, but only slightly. I didn't think anything of it because a- it was just one tooth and b- surely they could just make an adjustment to my retainer to keep it in place. Little did I know when the man in charge, Dr. Brunk, came in to take a glance at my teeth he would come to the conclusion that I need braces again. For the fifth time! But who is keeping count. Not only am I getting braces again, he is going to re-shape my tooth and the surrounding teeth and I will have a minor surgery called CSF, which will fix the fibers in my gums pulling my tooth into the wrong location. Now I'll admit those first couple of times I didn't wear my retainer every single night, but this time I have. Oh well, I'll have that "perfect smile" when I'm finished with this set. If not, I'm giving up.

I am very thankful that I have such a good, wonderful, caring orthodontist because one day when I get married I won't look at my portraits and think "man, my teeth would look so much better straighter" and for that I am thankful! I would recommend my orthodontist to anyone on the universe, he puts his heart into his patients' "perfect smile" and will do anything he has to to make it perfect!

Nursing School

As I mentioned I want to be a nurse but first I have to get into nursing school. This is proving to be a challenge for me, considering I haven't even applied yet. When applying to nursing school, you apply with on average 350 other college students, keep in mind only 130 are accepted. Whew, talk about stressful. I have to keep my GPA high, pass a pre-admissions exam and then apply and pray, pray, pray. Good gracious!

I took the pre-admissions exam almost 2 weeks ago, and as expected received my scores through the mail today. You have to pass this exam to be looked at for nursing school and there are 4 numbers they look at- the composite score and the verbal, math and science percentiles. The percentiles have to be over 50%. Guess what I only have 46% on verbal. Lovely. This means I have to take this exam over again in January, just in time to apply for nursing school in February. I'll go ahead and start accepting prayers starting now until January.

I will be a nurse one day! If its the last thing I do!
