A Book To Live By

About 3 weeks ago I started reading Proverbs. I started with one chapter a night and then bumped it up to two a night. I really enjoyed reading this book of the Bible. Before this I have read verses, sometimes whole chapters but never the whole book. I truly loved it! There are some awesome verses that we all need to live by, I know I need to at least. I could be doing much better than I am now. I love the verses where they tell you straight up how we need to live. I love that it is a well rounded book, it covers many areas of life. Below are my favorite verses just for my reference in the future. I loved some and wish I didn't have to hear the others because they "called me out."

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction. Proverbs 1:7

Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6

My son, do not despise the LORD’s discipline, and do not resent his rebuke, because the LORD disciplines those he loves, as a father the son he delights in. Proverbs 3:11-12

My son, do not let wisdom and understanding out of your sight, preserve sound judgment and discretion; they will be life for you, an ornament to grace your neck. Then you will go on your way in safety, and your foot will not stumble. When you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet. Have no fear of sudden disaster or of the ruin that overtakes the wicked, for the LORD will be at your side and will keep your foot from being snared. Proverbs 3:21-26

Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it. Keep your mouth free of perversity; keep corrupt talk far from your lips. Proverbs 4:23-24

There are six things the LORD hates, seven that are detestable to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies and a person who stirs up conflict in the community. Proverbs 6:16-19

When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom. Proverbs 11:2

A kindhearted woman gains honor, but ruthless men gain only wealth. Proverbs 11:16

Whoever seeks good finds favor, but evil comes to one who searches for it. Proverbs 11:27

Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but whoever hates correction is stupid. Proverbs 12:1

A wife of noble character is her husband’s crown, but a disgraceful wife is like decay in his bones. Proverbs 12:4

Anxiety weighs down the heart, but a kind word cheers it up. Proverbs 12:25

Whoever spares the rod hates their children, but the one who loves their children is careful to discipline them.Proverbs 13:24

The eyes of the LORD are everywhere, keeping watch on the wicked and the good.Proverbs 15:3

A hot-tempered person stirs up conflict, but the one who is patient calms a quarrel. Proverbs 15:18

Wisdom’s instruction is to fear the LORD, and humility comes before honor. Proverbs 15:33

Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and he will establish your plans. Proverbs 16:3

In their hearts humans plan their course, but the LORD establishes their steps. Proverbs 16: 9

Better a dry crust with peace and quiet than a house full of feasting, with strife. Proverbs 17:1

Starting a quarrel is like breaching a dam; so drop the matter before a dispute breaks out. Proverbs 17:14

A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity. Proverbs 17:17

The name of the LORD is a fortified tower; the righteous run to it and are safe. Proverbs 18:10

In a lawsuit the first to speak seems right, until someone comes forward and cross-examines. Proverbs 18:17

He who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favor from the LORD. Proverbs 18:22

A foolish child is a father’s ruin, and a quarrelsome wife is like the constant dripping of a leaky roof. Houses and wealth are inherited from parents, but a prudent wife is from the LORD. Laziness brings on deep sleep, and the shiftless go hungry. Proverbs 19:13-15

Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the LORD’s purpose that prevails. Proverbs 19:21

Gold there is, and rubies in abundance, but lips that speak knowledge are a rare jewel. Proverbs 20:15

A person’s steps are directed by the LORD. How then can anyone understand their own way? Proverbs 20:24

There is no wisdom, no insight, no plan that can succeed against the LORD. The horse is made ready for the day of battle, but victory rests with the LORD. Proverbs 21:30-31

Do not let your heart envy sinners, but always be zealous for the fear of the LORD. Proverbs 23:17

My son, give me your heart and let your eyes delight in my ways.. Proverbs 23:26

The wicked flee though no one pursues, but the righteous are as bold as a lion. Proverbs 28:1

Blessed is the one who always trembles before God, but whoever hardens their heart falls into trouble. Proverbs 28:14

A faithful person will be richly blessed, but one eager to get rich will not go unpunished. Proverbs 28:20

The greedy stir up conflict, but those who trust in the LORD will prosper. Proverbs 28:25

Discipline your children, and they will give you peace; they will bring you the delights you desire. Proverbs 29:17

A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies. Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value. She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life. She selects wool and flax and works with eager hands. She is like the merchant ships, bringing her food from afar. She gets up while it is still night; she provides food for her family and portions for her female servants. She considers a field and buys it; out of her earnings she plants a vineyard. She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks. She sees that her trading is profitable, and her lamp does not go out at night. In her hand she holds the distaff and grasps the spindle with her fingers. She opens her arms to the poor and extends her hands to the needy. When it snows, she has no fear for her household; for all of them are clothed in scarlet. She makes coverings for her bed; she is clothed in fine linen and purple. Her husband is respected at the city gate, where he takes his seat among the elders of the land. She makes linen garments and sells them, and supplies the merchants with sashes. She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue. She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: “Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.” Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised. Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate. Proverbs 31:10-31
